The Norwegian russe tradition, known as “russ,” involves high school students celebrating their upcoming graduation by forming groups called “russegrupper.” Each group develops a unique brand identity with custom outfits, logos, slogans, songs, and often customized tour buses. The objective is to create the most provoking and distinctive brand, including an original name and concept. Groups compete annually for awards in categories such as best logo, name, concept, bus, and songs.
This brand was created for the russegruppe HAM, inspired by HAM, the first monkey sent to space. This symbolizes their ambition to aim high. The logo, influenced by the style of “Rick and Morty,” depicts the monkey floating in space with a beer and helmet, representing the group’s spirit of pushing boundaries as they approach graduation.
The helmet features an ‘S’ that references the group’s cover name, “Stig.” This secondary identity includes cover songs, a cover album, and related release parties. The name “Stig” is a wordplay on the helmet and the Norwegian verb meaning “to rise” or “ascend,” underscoring the group’s goal of reaching new heights.
Both HAM and Stig logos are used as album covers on Spotify. The HAM logo also appears on the group’s sweaters, social media, and event merchandise worn throughout the russefeiring period.
